Mark Freeman of the DOJ’s Civil Division started his argument by noting that he was not attempting to “defend or justify” Donald Trump’s “crude and offensive comments” as president. But E. Jean Carroll’s lawyer said the presidency shouldn’t confer an “unlimited prerogative.”
