TikTok Sues State of Montana

On May 22, TikTok filed a lawsuit against the state of Montana, after Governor Greg Gianforte (R-Mont.) signed a bill that will enforce a ban on the platform beginning Jan. 1, 2024. The company alleges that the new law unconstitutionally shuts “down the forum for speech” by restricting social media users from accessing its content. If upheld, the law would penalize TikTok for operating in the state and fine any app store that allows residents to download the social media platform on their devices.
